Why use Child Care?

This article is based on Canadian Research but is relevant to our Australian situation.

Arrangements for children prior to Prep

As Prep is not compulsory, some parents may choose to send their children to an alternative early childhood care and education service.

Prep is part of primary schooling and is provided through state schools and accredited non-state schools.

Parents considering a pre-Prep service for their child should consider the full range of early education and care options available to them and place their child's name on waiting lists if necessary.

Children who participate in a quality early education program, such as kindergarten, enjoy learning experiences and establish relationships that create a strong foundation for their future education.

Queensland Government approved kindergarten programs offer an accredited education program for children in the year before Prep delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher for at least 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. Approved kindergarten programs can be delivered in a range of settings, including kindergarten and long day care services.

VILLAGE CHILD CARE CENTRE is a Queensland Government approved Kindergarten Program. We call our program Pre-Prep because it is the year before Prep.

You will see us listed as an approved kindergarten program if you visit the Office for Early Childhood Education and Care website

We help get children ready for prep by having supporting relationships with local primary schools and arranging to visit with our pre-prep students. More advice about getting ready for prep is here.

Visit the DETA website to see when your child is eligible to take part in the kindergarten program.

How can you compare Early Learning Centres?

All Child Care Centres in Australia must regularly participate in a rigorous audit process called the National Quality Standard in order to comply with government regulations. In our latest audit completed in  2012, our service was rated as EXCEEDING the NATIONAL QUALITY STANDARD by the Department of Education, Training and Employment. This is the highest standard possible.  In fact the government reviewer said “ I could live in your rooms…. I could just stay here all day !”  More information about the National Quality Standard can be found here.
